Laura (Mulally) Kampschroeder was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Lawrence when she was four. She met her husband Larry at Lawrence High School. Laura went to KU and Larry went to K-State. Subsequently they married in 1968. Laura worked in many departments at Sprint for 23 years; lastly in the University of Excellence where she taught Microsoft software products and developed computer-based training. Larry and Laura have two sons who are married with children. We now have five grandchildren; four girls and a boy and one great granddaughter!

Laura has been teaching Line Dance fun since 1991. It all started while square dancing when one of the dancers asked if she would consider teaching line dancing at the St. Joseph Hospital Community Well-Life Center. Since the class was to be held on Fridays at 5:30 and conveniently on the way home from working at Sprint, she agreed. At the time, she knew six dances and now has taught over 700.

She has taught at many venues including St. Joseph Hospital, YMCA, Elk's Club, Kingswood Manor, Pilipino Cultural Center, the Grinter House Visitor's Center, Matt Ross Community Center, Blue Valley Recreation Center, Element Fitness, and Fairways at Ironhorse Senior Living Community. She also teaches at private parties, workshops, and receptions as well as substituting at various venues in the greater Kansas City area.

In October 2021, Laura planned to retire from teaching her classes but the students insisted on keeping the Beginner Class. So, in February 2023, Laura moved her beginner class to the Lenexa Community Center.

The center was remodeled in 2024 and changed the name to the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center..

The "beginners" were ready to move to the Improver level so in March 2025 the Beginner class changed it's name to Improver, and a new Beginner Class was added, meeting at the same location at 2:45.
